Guest Teachers Series
Calling All Graduates of Heart from any Era:
As a part of the 60th Anniversary celebrations next year we are planning a Guest Teacher Series, which will bring 60 guest alumni into our classrooms to share life lessons and ideas with our students. To help us arrive at our 60 Guest Teacher list, we are asking if you would volunteer yourself or identify former students of note who have pursued interesting careers and lives in the arts and humanities, science, medicine, business, technology, public service, academia, the volunteer sector, athletics or other areas. As a former student, we recognize the contributions that you are making to your chosen field or to society at large. You need not be famous or at the very height of your career as we wish to highlight successes and passions spanning many perspectives and viewpoints. Your enthusiasm for what you do and your willingness to connect with young Highlanders is the very point of the initiative.
It is fitting that we honour the expertise and abilities of our alumni by inviting them back to the very classrooms where their passions were nurtured.
Please visit the link below to apply to the Guest Teacher Series wherein you will commit to one class at Heart during Term One of the 2018-'19 school year. So, now it's your turn - reach out and inspire others with your wisdom and experience and help us engage and shape the new generation of artists, entrepreneurs, scientists, researchers, activists and leaders about to make their marks.

On Thursday, December 13th, writer Eva Crocker participated in Heart's 60th anniversary initiative - the Guest Teacher Series. Eva, a graduate of Heart [class of 2008] was the first school graduate to help launch our signature teaching and learning event to celebrate Holy Heart's decades-long tradition of excellence in education. She agreed to meet with her former teacher, Jeanne O'Brien, and 'guest teach' a grade 10 writing class on point of view and perspective in narrative writing. It was a wonderful and fun two hours with great interaction between Eva and the writing students. Grade ten student Samuel Henri won a copy of her short stories for eagerly volunteering during her lesson. The class presented Eva with an apple as a symbol of teaching and learning everywhere - especially from an esteemed graduate who encouraged students to find their voices and enter competitions and read and write daily in the hopes of accomplishing their own creative goals.

Eva's collection of short stories Barreling Forward was published in 2017 [House of Anansi Press] and was extremely well-reviewed nationally. She is currently living in Montreal and is writing her first novel. We truly appreciate her visit and wish her continued success in her career as a professional writer.
